My name is Michael Zanger-Tishler, and I am a PhD candidate in sociology and social policy at Harvard. In my research, I use statistical methods to study inequalities in the criminal legal system, and theorize how the types of data available to study crime and the criminal legal system shape the quantitative claims we can make about it.

During the 2026-2027 academic year, I will be a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Weatherhead Scholars Program. Starting in the fall of 2027, I will be an assistant professor in the department of sociology and criminology at the University of Iowa.
